The oil deflector plastics are critical for the survival of your transfer case. They ensure that oil is correctly channeled to the bearings and clutch plates. If these plastics become brittle, crack, or melt due to high temperatures, the unit will suffer from oil starvation, leading to catastrophic internal failure.

Common symptoms include a jerking sensation during acceleration, shuttering while turning, or grinding noises coming from the drivetrain. These often happen because the lack of proper oil delivery caused by damaged deflectors has already led to premature wear of the internal components.

This kit is specifically designed for the ATC45L transfer case, which is commonly found in BMW X5 (F15) and X6 (F16) models. Always verify the transfer case type on the identification tag located on the housing of the unit before ordering.

Replacing the oil deflector kit requires removing and opening the transfer case. While it doesn’t strictly require highly specialized “BMW-only” tools, you will need standard drivetrain repair tools and a clean environment to ensure no contaminants enter the unit during reassembly.
